About

My name is Josephine Brooks, and I’m a junior at Saddle River Day School. As an aspiring environmental chemist, I’m interested in how technology, particularly drones, are transforming and aiding scientific research. Check out my Ted Talk on this topic. My goal for the lesson plan I created was to present complex science research in an understandable way, especially for children.

Last summer as a 2024 “Partners in Science” intern at Liberty Science Center in Jersey City, NJ, I developed an interactive, walk-up experience for young museum guests. The project, Drones in Whale Research, explored how drones are employed to study whale health by collecting respiratory microbiome samples and photos. Following my internship, this experience was given to elementary students at my school. I am eager to share my free lesson plan with all interested science educators.

"Nothing in science has any value to society if it is not communicated."
